There has been a lot of talk about bubbles over recent times. We have germ bubbles, household bubbles, extended bubbles, social bubbles, and now we’ve made an enormous bubble with the whole of Australia. The bubble concept has been used to protect us and keep us safe during a global pandemic. How can we use this concept to reflect and plan?

My client talked to me about missing travel as part of her job. It turned out it wasn’t the travel itself she missed (airports, taxis, hotels, skipped, meals, arriving home late and missing her children) it was the travel ‘time -out’. The travelling had allowed her time alone, to reflect, contemplate and plan. She missed that. Her busy brain was not getting those quality thinking times.

In one session together we made a plan. We devised that one morning a week she would create her personal travel bubble – a quiet corner of the café close to work. She would order the perfect coffee and a delicious breakfast. Then she’d utilise the rest of the hour to journal, reflect and plan.

Now it’s a regular weekly event. Her own personal bubble to:

  • calm the mind
  • focus on what’s important
  • make space for quality thinking
  • plan

As a result she is feeling more in control and has time to be more strategic in her thinking. What’s not to like?

Executive coaching is where an individual (usually executives, but often high-potential employees) work with a qualified professional to help them gain self-awareness, clarify goals, achieve their development objectives, and unlock their potential.
